How to completely uninstall Magic ISO from PC with context menu removal

What is MagicISO?

MagicISO is a powerful CD/DVD image file creating/editing/extracting tool. It can open/create/edit /extract CD/DVD image files, and it can convert bin to iso and back.  as well as make ISO file from DVD/CD-ROM or hard disk, and handle bootable information at meanwhile.

The problem you might face while uninstalling:

While uninstalling you might get the error "Could not open INSTALL.LOG".
If you face this error.

Please follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Open the install location by default it would be "C:\Program Files\MagicISO"
  2. Cut the file "INSTALL.LOG" from the install directory and paste it into Desktop
  3. Double click on the UNWISE.EXE file
  4. Then the uninstaller will launch and it will prompt you to browse and select the "INSTALL.LOG" file
  5. Browse to Desktop and select the file which you moved to desktop
This way you will be able to uninstall the software.

The problem you will face after uninstalling:

Even after uninstalling if you select any file you will see “MagicISO” with various sub-options. These options when clicked will take you to their website by automatically opening their website in your computer’s default web browser. You may be thinking that you have uninstalled the software and MagicISO is still visible right click menu. This option would not go even after a system restart.

The problem lies because the file "misosh64.dll" is not deleted at the location "C:/Program Files/MagicISO".

Please follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Go To “C:/Program Files/MagicISO"
  2. Select the file "misosh64.dll" and Delete it
  3. You will see an error which says that file can’t be deleted as it is open in windows explorer
  4. Do not click ‘Cancel’ and keep the error message open
  5. Now open windows task manager and click the processes tab. Find ‘explorer’, click it and hit the delete button to end it
  6. Now after stopping the explorer you will only see the error message and task manager on the screen
  7. Now click “try again”. The file misosh64.dll will be deleted
  8. Now click “File” in task manager and choose “New task(run)”. Enter “explorer” without quotes and hit OK
  9. Now right click on any file and you will not see any MagicISO option
This way by following the above-mentioned steps you'll be able to successfully remove the MagicISO from your windows.

Hope this helps.

  5. Don't listen to the above. Go to the “C:/Program Files/MagicISO" Right click and CUT. PASTE it to your desktop and then drag it to your trash. DONE!

  6. Above didn't work for me either. What did is to cut the file to another place, open it in notepad, delete all the contents, save it, then delete the file.

  8. DON'T DO IT! Under current Windows 10, stopping ("deleting" as said) explorer process was useless: the confirmation box disappeared. However, starting explorer as also said via Task Manager, showed me my desktop with ALL shortcuts and files that were on it deleted (even from my user desktop folder)! DAMN! I finally ended up with the only solution at hand, and which I will illustrate : clean up Windows registry manually (if someone knows how to restore my previous desktop, please leave a note).

After opening regedit in administrative mode, do a backup of your registry. Then:

    1) Search (without the quotes) "misosh64.dll". In the first occurrence, look at the key and copy it, it should look like (but will be different.. maybe):
    DB85C504-C730-49DD-BEC1-7B39C6103B7A
Then from the beginning, search for that long string, and delete every of its occurrence (it corresponds to the program ID string of MagicISO)

NOTE 1: if regedit gives you a message that it can't find what you are trying to delete, refresh it via its top menu.

NOTE 2: press F3 on each search string, as there will be duplicate entries: those in HKEY_USERS (or CURRENT_USER), and those in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    2) From the beginning, search for "MagicISO", and delete every occurrence of that Key (along sub-keys) from the left panel. There will be some entries in other places like a string among others under the key for menu system etc., delete those single strings from the right panel (same thing for the previous search along the ID string). Or a letter among a list of several others, corresponding to the list generated when asking for a program to open ISO files by default when you double-click an ISO file: delete the corresponding letter too.

    3) From the beginning, search for "Misosh.MShellExtMenu", and delete every occurrence of that key from the left panel (along its sub-keys)

    4) From the beginning, search for "Misosh.MShellExtMenu.1", and delete every occurrence of that key from the left panel (along its sub-keys)

    5) That should do it. Close regedit and restart your system

FINALLY) From then on you should be able to delete MagicISO folder along its left-overs from Program Files (x86).

  9. Maybe HawkFest above me is not wrong but to avoid that, and mess up with the registry, just uninstall the program in the Custom way, selecting all the entries and delete them, then do what the author said.
    Listo.
